I've had my Metallic Red SG Robot for about 6 months. Its amazing but i just cant wait for the darkfire upgrade.

The question is:

Should i sell my robot for a Red/Gold Hardware diablo?

If you're using the Robot for alt tunings and getting good use out of it in that reguard, you should consider keeping it. On the other hand, as I understand it, the "Robot upgrade package" will not upgrade the Robot with the DF electronics - it's an upgrade to the newer (DF) tuners (not the electronics and acoustic piezo bridge pickup). In which case, you might want to switch to the Diablo.

The Diablo looks cool. Love the burstbucker pros. (Not a fan of carved top SGs)

i wasnt planning on getting one just the upgrade

idk if that upgrade comes with the new longer battery or not

if it doesn't i'm definitely going to sell it

i'll post a link when its up on ebay

just for a second forgetting the altered tuning capabilities of the Robot, the Diablo has two big differences, in many peoples opinions the Diablo has better humbuckers ,and of course it boasts 24 frets which, which is what what sway it for me.

If it is ltd edition Robot it will have an ebony neck like the Diablo.

If you play a variety of styles with altered tuning, and gig a lot, and don't care about two extra frets, buy the Robot and when you have the cash upgrade the humbuckers ;)

(Bare in mind that the majority of people who hate the Robot guitars have never played one, they just enjoy being anti them ;) LOL)

I dont "hate" robots but I do think it is just one more thing to go wrong! It is fine if it is new and under warrantee but what about a few years later when youve bought it used. (Like an old car with electric windows!).

So are you recommending only buying used guitars with a single pup wired direct to the jack (just using the amp to control volume and tone), leaving a minimum breakdown risk? :-

No, I just dont trust electric motors, particularly when they are miniaturised, to last very long.

The Robot is a really neat idea, but c'mon ..... it is obviously just a gimmick to sell a few more. in 20 years they will be collectables, but like the GT, the Gothic or any others, they are just a flash in the pan.

I know it´s been written and said pretty often already. But, a guitar, especially a good one like a Gibson, is for life. Or at least it can be if you want it to. Therefore I´d never get a robot, because there´s to much technical and software stuff about it. A 1956 Gibson Les Paul for example is still a Gibson Les Paul and can be played, if it was reasonably cared for over the years. A computer you propably bought in the 80s for example - well...

Just my thoughts about it ofcourse.

I differ here. Yes I agree there are will be teething problems, but I think Robot technology will change things for other instruments too in the future...for the better. I can see one day The Piano having Robot tuning cpability for instance.

So many people focus on "I can tune a guitar with my ear, it is a part of the playing experience, Robot technology is un-necessary' etc etc.

What people do not realise is how useful it is live to change tunings. twenty seconds from e flat to DADGAD and while the signal cuts out too...this is incredibly useful.

Playing live and you can not hear yourself clearly except that you sound out of tune is solved in seconds...

If and when the tuners on my les Paul break if I cannot afford to fix the straight away so be it. It is a great playing guitar in it's own right.

If you have a choice betwen a regular sg special/standard and a Robot I would say get a Robot, if it is a ltd you will get an ebony fret board, hard case and also the cherry on the cake the robot tuning.

+1. Come on people' date=' this is not about being lazy when tuning to standard tuning. This is about being able to switch between tunings within seconds while playing live. Need to play slide for a song? Switch to Open E tuning and let it tune while you switch your pedals to the next song and get your slide on your finger. Why would this possibly be bad? It's far superior to the modeling approach other guitar manufacturers have adopted to deal with this scenario.

The computer only detects the tuning, it's not like the VG Strat or the Variax which already sound old because of the advances in modelling since those guitars were introducted.

And the analogy to 1980s computers doesn't make sense. If it did, then a tuner from the 70s, 80s, or 90s would be worthless... [i']which of course it's not[/i]. We're talking tuning, not computer generated sounds.

Yeah, the bound ebony fretboard is really classy and I love the sound of it with the SG. There's no other way to get an Ebony fretboard from Gibson USA as far as I know anymore. I've read Ebony has gotten too expensive for them and thus all Gibson's ebony wood is going to the Custom and Acoustic divisions.

forgetting the altered tuning possibilities and it being a Robot Guitar, the specs for the price are top notch!!

$1500 for a bounded neck and headstock, ebony fret board and identical body to a standard is great value. Not to mention a hard case too!

The Robot capabilities are just a great cherry on the cake!
