gibtex5
So, any guesses here? Oversprayed? Refinished? The seller insists it is the light only that makes it look shiny, but I don't think so... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270220746935&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching
TheLiveSoundGuy
I looked at an older Gibson Blueridge from about the same model year, at GC the other day and thought the same thing. It looked like it was soaked in lacquer or varnish. I swear you could carve your name in it and still not reach the wood. It sounded incredible though. retrorod
Hey Gibtex5, Looking at the pics...it smells(and looks) like a refinish to me! There is something funky going on the with the headstock face. Should be black. Looks like it was sanded and refined! The story about 'in the case, almost forgot I had it'....worrys me. If it sounded and played that good....there wouldn,t be NO FORGETTIN' it:-k ...RRod

The one question was priceless: Q: Has the guitar ever been refinished ? It's kind a shiny. Thx once59 Mar-20-08A: I think thats a combination of the lighting in the shop, and the flash from my camera. Its not a good representation of the actual finish. The guitar is all original with regard to the finish, and I thank you for asking a great question. "kind a shiny" - lol I also agree it looked like a refinish. The laquer slopped over the top of the nut looked messy to me, and the grain of the wood was all wrong.
Gilliangirl
Look at the saddle.... it's straight across instead of on an angle..... looks a bit weird.

These EBAY sellers can,t pull the finish over our eyes...HA!
ksdaddy
A J50 should have had a decal logo, not inlaid. That one looked inlaid to my eyes. Up to the late 60s the headstock faces had thin veneers on them... holly maybe? "Some" from the 70s had no veneer at all, some had black plastic. This one is some kind of rebuild, that's for sure. ksdaddy
I think it's real, just maybe refinished. Something horrible probably happened to the headstock veneer and they stripped it off, then tried their hand at inlaying a pearl logo. I'm not real well versed in Gibson logos but this one looks wicked square. Seems like those have been mentioned, although I don't know if I'd know one if it bit me. As to the bridge, seems like it should have an adjustable saddle, so this is probably a replacement bridge. Of course now I actually go and READ the auction, he says that anyway! The truss rod cover has got Seventies all over it, but that's only two screws.
