New, not scratch and dent, SG Classic P90s Cherry red, Plus a hard case (Epiphone case but who cares really, I can put a big ole sticker over the Epiphone symbol or better yet, leave it as is and allow potential thieves to believe it isnt worth stealing!) And a nice suede strap, all brand new and delivered for just under $900 (from an authorised dealer).

Now, unless there turns out to be a problem with the guitar, I'd call that a bargain. I will keep y'all posted.

I shall do my best to post pics once the guitar is actually in my sticky mitts. I am very excited about this. By the way, credit where it is due, thanks to THE HBomb for advice that, ultimately, led me to this turning point in life (buying my first REAL SG).

congratulations! I also have an SG classic and it is awesome. Those P-90's really growl, even on a clean amp. Have fun with your new guitar.

Good job!

I had one, never should have sold it. I'm a big P-90 fan.

See below, on the right.

I would say the price is a little high, but that's what they're going for now.

Saw one in Guitar Center a few days ago for $1,000.

Congrats. I tend to agree about the case. That's a good idea. It won't help if they're casing you in clubs, or whatever, but it can't hurt either.

Best of luck.

I got a great deal on my standard too. I paid about $800 when the price was $1429. My brothers friend works at g-center so I was able to get a "family discount". No case to save a hundred bucks cause I already had a perfect fitting case at home. SGs are the best. I want one of those classics but I'm looking into the 339. They're awesome.

AFAIK, the standard and faded special are the only two that have had serious price drops. Maybe the others will follow soon!

Since the Classic is very similar to the Standard but with different pick ups, even at the "normal" price of around $900 online it compares well with the new lower price of the standard at around $1150 ish. Although the standard does come with a hard case (shouldnt all Gibsons come with a hard case?).

Hey my friend has the same 12 string SG you have' date=' Great Guitar.[/quote']

Really?

I heard a rumor (from Gibson) that there may have been as many as a dozen made in the mid nineties.

In 3 years of searching, I have yet to find a single one.

Tell me about this friend of yours, is he looking to make a few bucks?

:-)

So...... Not happy with owning one of the very few, now you are seeking to deprive everyone else of the possibility of having one by buying them all up! You are evil - but I like your style!

OK so it arrived and I am having internet issues at home but pics will be soon.

It is a GREAT guitar.

It is red, not orange, it has one of the best necks I have seen on an SG, is this luck or are the classics always this much better than average?

The body is 3 piece but it took me a while to be certain (hint, the most obvious place to be sure is viewing the grain from side on at the tail end)

The only issue I can determine is the nut seems to be binding a little making tuning a pain. Nut lube fixed it but, in due course, I may get that nut replaced. there was also a bit of a buzz at the bridge on the two thinest strings but, once tuned properly, that went away.

Plays great unplugged, lots of sustain and a nice tone. Plugged in and omg! Those P90s sound beautiful. Im not really good at describing tone but let me just say that I now understand what everyone raves about!

NOW, heres my beef with Gibson. The warantee card/booklet did not have the serial number or model number filled in. I know the serial number because it is on the guitar but I dont know the model number! Also, the checklist (Quality Control) had not been checked off or signed.

Is it any wonder Gibson have QC issues if they cant even get around to filling in the documentation correctly!

Now, compared to my SG Prophecy, the Gibson is thinner, a little lighter and has shallower bevels. It also has noticeably greater angle on the neck and headstock joints and cleaner binding. The neck of the gibson is a little chunkier but not so much that it is a problem for me. I would still say the Epi has the faster neck of the two and it also has two extra frets. Quality overall is comparable although I have not gone so far as to take the back plates off and look at the wiring/soldering and pots. Given that they ended up costing me similar prices, I am happy with both. These two are now my "keeper" guitars. I may never look at another!

Long post, I know, but seriously, for the price, even without my outrageous discount, this has to be the best SG out there. Get one now or live to regret it!
