Geff
I dont know the answer to your first question but used Gibsons crop up all over the place. Ebay or your local guitar shop are the two best places to find used Gibsons. The bigger the shop and bigger the town, the more likely they will have something but you could find a bargain in a small local place. Pawn shops in the UK are probably not a great place for guitars, unlike Nashville! Im not sure what you mean by certified but apart from Gibson Customer Services, this is probably the best place to find out if a Gibson is real or not as there is such a wealth of knowledge on here. With the economy heading south, more are likely to be turning up! I am not sure if the price cuts have or will reach the UK but if they do, you may reconsider looking at new ones. Stevie Nazarenie
i think lots of fakes will end up in music shops, straight off ebay from china! i know our local guy said the fake epi i had was a "good and right weight ... and it has good tuners on it!" (fake grovers. they didn't hold either.) i was wanting him to help out identify the wood in it before getting involved with gibson customer service. i also had to take it to a wood merchant but he couldn't say what wood it was. this was ebay/ paypals want of me to get an expert verifed opinion, and gibson didn't seem good enough. (!!!) anyway gibson identified it as fake and got back to me within half an hour. (thanks guys.) i would use that precaution anyway. or... i'm kinda looking at an expert gibson dealer or vintage dealer. i have found some online now but you sure do pay for their expert opinion! i know it does not aid the market but i like the idea of a 70's guitar. perhaps if i get one from the 70's i can't go wrong. i can't seem to get an answer on this question about wood, even from gibson. yes i accept they have a good quality instrument but i have want of a honduran... i may just go vintage.
