Geoffrey Lawton
That's the question. I have here a '64 and wonder if it's laminated or not. I can't find anything on the web so far that confirms it or denies so I'm probably not looking at the correct source. Thanks Geoff
Guest
"Maybe". It's Gibson, remember? A lot of even "high-end" Gibsons of that era were laminated, so it would be par for the course if your LG-1 was too. Then agn, it might be they had solid around and built it with that. You could always just crack off a little piece to check it, Geoff. :- Fred
Geoffrey Lawton
Thanks, Fred. Looks like laminate to me. Maybe I'll take your advice. Geoff
onewilyfool
The top should be pretty easy to look through the sound hole....but the end pin can be removed to see if the sides are laminate......

Taylor Player
My 64 Gibson LG1 has a Solid Spruce top, Solid Mahogany back but laminated sides according to the Luthier I am having work on it. The side lamination was to make it structurally a bit stronger. I don't mind at all, it's all part of the tone of that ladder braced box that appeals to me.
