leftandhanded
Hello, i want to sell my Gibson SJ45 Deluxe left hand but can´t find any usefull information about this guitar. SJ45 - S/N: 92363024 - Year: 1993 (orange label inside) I only found that production date was from 1994-1998, so mine is from 1993 (?). I bought this guitar from a dealer here in Germany second hand who told me that this gutar was custom build by Gibson for a relatively famous german guitar player (Kuddel of Die Toten Hosen), but i can´t ask him... So what do you think is the todays value of it? The dealer told me that this guitar should have cost about 8.000 USD back in the 90´s. Thanks in advance for any information about this guitar. rar
Nice guitar! I'm sure my wife, who plays lefty, would love it. Pricing high-end lefty guitars such as this one is really tricky, because there are many fewer of them and there are many fewer left-handed players. Most dealers I've talked to figure that these two factors roughly cancel each other out. But, for a really rare and desirable lefty, I'd expect the price to be a bit higher than for the righty equivalent. I'd guess you could get in the neighborhood $4K for this one. Maybe more if you can find the right buyer. -- Bob R
leftandhanded
Thank you very much, Bob. Selling it in the neighborhood isn´t easy because there are not so many leftys around here in Germany. So eBay should be my first choice - Or your wife? :-) jørn
gearbasher
Hi, I really can't tell you it's present value, but I own a right-handed SJ-45 Deluxe that was built in '95. I purchased it new in '95 (I ordered it in late '94 and waited a few months for it). I paid $2k for it, new, back then. I've been looking to see what the resale value is, but I haven't seen any being sold. Good luck with your sale.
rar
So eBay should be my first choice - Or your wife? :-) eBay is probably your best bet if you're interested in a quick sale, but don't expect to get top dollar. I bought my wife a factory lefty 1957 J-50 on eBay a few months ago, The seller, who was a reputable dealer, set the opening bid just a couple of hundred below what he was asking for it in his shop, which was a fair dealer price for a comparable righty of that vintage (and thus somewhat higher than a random individual seller could expect on eBay). I wound up being the only bidder, but he got at least three offers from people who wanted it at a lower price. This suggests that there is a significant eBay market out there for rare leftys, if the price is right. -- Bob R
Guest
That model is one of my favourite Bozeman-factory-built round-shouldered guitars. I don't think I've ever seen a lefty though. Kewl. Fred
