What's up with the strings?

He likes his guitars long-haired, hehe...

P.S. The vintage LP makes me drool into my keyboard!

I prefer the 2000 R9, and then the 50's vintage; the chambered I don't really care for. The R9 seems to have that fat, woody tone that I like; the vintage seems to have bite and is a bit trebly; the chambered reminds me of a ES-335 although not quite as hollow sounding. I wonder if my take would be the same if I hadn't been told which was which. I think that I would have recognized the tonal differences although unable to label what particular model was which. In the end, I'm sure anyone would be happy to have either of the three if they were gifted to us. After all, they are true Gibby's. Play on!

Very nice summary! I have a chambered one and I think it has its place. I wouldn't play it for that fat blues tone using the neck pickup but it does have a great lead tone...
