Boston004681 Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Hey Guys, OK. I'm just going to say right now, im not taking the covers off my SG. i just found a nice LP. :- How do uncovered pickups sound different from covered pickups? i was reading in "The Ultimate-Guitar Forums", and there was already a thread that said it would give the tone of litter more bite, and take away some of that creaminess. (AND I NEED MY WOMAN TONE) I Found this great deal on Musician's Friend(And I'll start a separate thread about it), and i definetly wanna jump on it. But i've always loved how the LP Standard Fadeds look with uncovered zebra pups... How much of a hassle would it be, and how would it change my tone, if i took those off? Edit: Here's the link to the other page.
dmeds Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 I recently added gold pickup covers to my Epi LP that I modded with a SD Pearly Gates in the neck and a Custom Custom in the bridge. I was looking to add to the aesthetics more than the tone. I did notice an ever so slight clip in the bite or treble; not enough to even be concerned about. As far as taking away creaminess, I believe that is more a combination of the guitar and the particular pu and covers would only enhance that. If anything, the overall output seems to have been clipped just a teeny bit. Nothing to write home about! Play on!
