Saw this today when polishing my new used LP. . . seems to be a factory imperfection on the neck. . as it's lacquered over. Doesn't seem as though Gibson would've let this get off the line. . . does this happen on occasions??

Someone probably had it fixed at some point if it was used.

That is possible. . however it's an 08 so I didn't really assume any repairs were made due to how the laquer flows down through the indent and the color is dead on. Is it at all possible it would've left the line like this?

Tree fungus. You should probably call a Tree Surgeon.

Can you feel it through the lacquer? Or is it completely even with the rest of the finish?

LoL. I can feel it.

There's no way Gibson would have let her out of the workshop with an imperfection like that, so it must have been damaged after being bought (probably only a minor issue) and then touched up/resprayed.

I had a similar circumstance with an '89 LP Ebony... didn't bother me at all.

Did you notice the mark when you bought her?

Ah yes, the much publicised Dutch Elm Les Paul.

'Tis a shame.

I would disagree with that.....

I have seen a few LP's now, both Custom shop and not, that have flaws. They range from lumps of glue on the side of the nut that flake off taking neck finish, to frets that look like they have been rubbed with 60 grit sandpaper and left that way.

I have had two come from Gibson with small issues. On looks like the nitro is bubbling top of the headstock, but it is is tight and you can not feel it at all. The other is that the binding on the bass side of the neck it rough to the touch almost like it was never sanded or buffed after putting on the nitro. So I suppose it could be like that from Gibson.

It is true that Gibson have let a few through, but I've never seen something like that out of the factory.

Like I said, it looks identical to my '89 Ebony LP and that had been refinished.

Was it sitting on a stand--a stand that isn't nitro safe?

+1 . . . . A stand melt and then was spot repaired and buffed (without retouching the whole neck) - cheap way out.

I have had and seen worse that that from the Gibson factory! Dont kid yourself. If its a real issue to you then take it back...
