Hi

Greetings, I am new here.

My question is about the best procedure to take care of a faded surface, is there a product to apply on it?

What if I want to get a satin gloss, what you recommend?

thanks

Hi, it deppends, do you want to keep the finish as it was originally (satin) or do you want to ad a little shine to it?

If you want to ad a little shine, most guys here use Virtuoso polish... from pics I can say it works wonders, but I haven't used it. I used GHS guitar polish on mine and it worked wonders too.

+1 Virtusos polish to give it a satiny sheen.

How about posting some pics?

Which faded model are you planning on polishing?

The reason I ask is because, depending on the model (or more importantly, the wood) you may not want to use Virtuoso. On some of the faded models, like the SG or Les Paul Special, they don't use as much pore sealer on the mahogany so there are large open pores in the wood. Virtuoso acts a lot like a car wax in that it dries to a white haze, then you buff it off. On my faded SG, it wound up filling the pores of the wood and I wound up with a shine, but also with white "flecks" in the finish. Good thing I tested on a small area where you couldn't see it afterwards.

I used T CUT under good advice from my local guitar shop and good freind and it worked a treat but that was on a second hand faded cherry gibson vee which I bought for the experiment. Then large amounts of meguiars three stage treatment red stain and black polish many hours sat in front of the tv polishing and I ruined it ,no I didn,t it looks great , very shinney and you can see your reflection in it.Not recomended if your not to sure.;)
