thesuitelounge Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 How loose/tight should the saddle fit into the bridge? Should it be permanently fixed/glued into the bridge, or be able to be removed/taken out (when changing strings)?
Taylor Player Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum.... My experiance has been that a properly fitted saddle will offer a slight bit of resistance when taking it out of the bridge. If it is loose you run the risk of it tilting one way or the other and possibly causing damage to the bridge itself or even the top of the guitar due to increased pressure. I wouldn't glue one in unless that is the way it came. I have never had a guitar with a glued in saddle. The only problem with taking it out and putting it back in would be if you have an under-saddle pickup installed as you could cause the pickup to move out of position which could possibly affect the plugged in sound. Great advice can likely be found on Bob Colossi's web site and you can get a gander at some beautiful saddles, pins and nuts there too! (follow the link below and be prepared to drool!)
