theodessakid Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I have a 2005 58 historic and I really like the sound as is. It has the origional Bumblebee caps and CTS pots. The previous owner swapped the Burstbuckers for 57 classics and I like that also. Just wondering in 2005 if the pots are 500 or 300 linier or audio. What is the difference between the bumblebees that Gibson uses and the rest of the world.
Tim Plains Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Historics have 500K pots, all pots. If the previous owner replaced the pickups, he may have also replaced the pot/caps. Real Bees are paper in oil capacitors. The Bees that Gibson uses are not. Look at this picture, see the yellow plastic on the wire? Are yours yellow like that or more of a darker orange? If they're yellow, they're the original fake Bees. Also look at the top of the pots. Are your pots blank like the ones in the picture, or are there numbers on the top? Stock pots are blank and have the numbers on the side. Aftermarket pots have numbers on the top.
