What the Heck Is This? Forum Manipulation?

I am not a techno head when it comes to the management of forums, but while I was having trouble logging on yesterday, I did a search and this came up:

It looks like it could be very old, but what do you reckon? Is someone trying to manipulate the number of hits on this forum?

Jokes aside my thread had nothing to do with the site being down - rather it was whether or not the postings on the Forum are all genuine, trolls aside. If you read the link you would get a better idea of what I am talking about.

 

I have a friend whose job is to go into all sort of websites, assume an alias and pose as a member of the public, and promote the product his employer sells.

 

I am not suggesting this is occurring, but the link does suggest that someone has, at some stage, taken it upon themselves to increase the hits on the Gibson Forum - whoever that might be.

 

Then again, I might have the wrong end of the stick
