theodessakid
Having played a 335 for many years I decided to buy a LP vintage mahogony 2004 vintage. Love the tone, the warmth and the texture of the sound it produces. Now I'm Looking at a used standard with a AAA top and heritage sunburst finish. Georgeous guitar but can't get past the brightness in the sound. It sounds shrill next to the VM studio. I know both have the burstbucker pickups with mahogony vs maple top but are they all so bright. Don't get me wrong....the standard is awsome but I am a tone freek and the VM has the tone I like. Would like to own the standard but not sure I would be happy with the sound.
matiac
Sounds like a "no brainer" to me, get the V.M.
Doc Music
Got a 2006 VM and 2007 Desert Burst Standard. I gravitate to the VM but I do love the glossy feel of the standard. You can adjust the tone knob with the Standard, it will be close but not exactly the VM tone.
theodessakid
Well, all I can say is less is more in this case...
jojo68
Yeah, I love mahogony too. I don't think I'll ever go back to maple.I like darker tones.
