Twiz Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 There's a lot of talk on here about great guitar riffs/guitar players. What are some of your favorite bass lines in songs? The bass line in this song comes to mind. The guy on guitar ain't bad either.
Corrosion of conformity Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The bass in "Got the Life" by Korn is pretty cool, I like the bass on most Korn songs, Fieldy has a unique sound that can be heard on a lot of Korn songs. "Tire Me" by Rage Against the Machine has a cool bass line in it too. Tim Commerford is another bass player with a unique sound
cookieman15061 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 All McCartneys work from Revolver on through Abbey Road was incredible. Paperback Writer/ Rain/Little help From My Friends/ Penny Lane/ Something/ great melodic bass lines from a superior musician.
Twiz Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 All McCartneys work from Revolver on through Abbey Road was incredible. Paperback Writer/ Rain/Little help From My Friends/ Penny Lane/ Something/ great melodic bass lines from a superior musician. +1. Definitely. I love the bass on 'Taxman'.
FirstMeasure Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Paul McCartney couldn't play his way out of a Wet Paper Bag. I always suspected Lonnie Mack played Bass on Abby Road. Anyway, Anything John Paul Jones did on Zeppelin I, II, or In Through The Out Door gets me. Then of course Dragon Attack by Queen.
Riffster Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 One of my favorite bass lines is actually on "I Saw Her Standing There" by the Beatles, just a great example of rock and roll bass. Pretty much anything by Iron Maiden's Steve Harris.
Cruznolfart Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Bakithi Kumalo's awesome lines from And for a nice, old tone-trip on bass, I still enjoy "Passion" from Rod Stewart. A cheesy vid but good audio.
Basshole Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Where do I start... When I think of perfect bass lines I think of theses Freewill by Rush Cowboy song by Thin Lizzy What is and never should be by Led Zeppelin Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin Photograph by Def Leppard Dani California By Red Hot Chili Peppers

wicked1 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Can't believe "Money" hasn't been mentioned. Oh....and Ray Manzarek's left hand! hehehe
saturn Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The whole Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell album. I'm not sure if the bass was put more up front on that album, or what, but the bass lines just make all those songs. +1 on McCartney too, especially Abbey Road.
Corrosion of conformity Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Paul McCartney couldn't play his way out of a Wet Paper Bag. I always suspected Lonnie Mack played Bass on Abby Road. +1!!!
saturn Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 If McCartney couldn't play his way out of a wet paper bag, I think I should just give up and quit. Can anyone here play better than him? If so, let them come forward
wicked1 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 If McCartney couldn't play his way out of a wet paper bag' date=' I think I should just give up and quit. Can anyone here play better than him? If so, let them come forward [/quote'] Bet I can play piano better than him! hehe Ok, maybe I can't. But I could definitely play better than Linda!!! I think if you at their work post-Beatles, McCartney was definitely the stronger musician & songwriter. Lennon wrote some iconic songs, no doubt. But his entire catalog is more hit & miss than Paul's.
wicked1 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Whats a bass? I think it's that thing with 4 strings that guitarists play with one hand while drinking a beer with the other. Does that help?
AXE® Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Whats a bass? Something another person plays when you have someone else to play with.
FirstMeasure Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Whats a bass? LOL! That reminds me of one of my First times playing in front of a Bar Crowd. After the show, this one lady who was there until the end says to me, "You're really good, how come you don't play the Big Guitar?" All I could think to say back was, "It's Not Mine."
wicked1 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Oh oh oh!!! How could I forget my absolute favorite song with the *best* bass line ever?? The Chain by Fleetwood Mac! The bass defines that song!
EVOL! Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Not much of a Metallica fan these days, but Jason Newsted's part in "I Disappear" is killer. Love the walk he does on the chorus. And they actually turned him up in the mix!
rocketman Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Basshole mentioned Freewill but I'm going with Geddy Lee on . The other one that comes to mind is John Entwistle on .
FirstMeasure Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 The Bass in Riahnon (sp?) also kicks-buns. I just found out recently that the "Mac" in Fleetwood Mac was for John Mcvie.
