What would you ask Les Paul ... ????

Recommended Posts

Hello to all,

My name is Gabriel Hernandez and I'm one of the editors here at Gibson.com. Next Tuesday, June 6, I will have the opportunity to interview Les Paul himself on his birthday, for eventual posting in the Lifestyle section of Gibson.com.

I have a list of preliminary questions all ready to go, but but I wanted to get input from the forums for other, not so ordinary questions to ask him. If you had the chance to ask him anything, what would you ask??? Let me know and I'll try to incorporate your questions into my interview next Tuesday night.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Gabe

Awesome question dmeds. To pursue that a bit further...

What do you think of weight relief? And of chambering LPs?

And what about the Robot technology?

The last time I saw Les Paul play, a teen in the audience asked him what guitar he was playing. Les' answer was classic. I forget the details, but essentially it went like this:

"Well, the body is from a 19xx LP x. The neck is off of a 19yy LP y. The pick-ups I wound myself. Oh and by the way, if you really want to get into your guitar, you should wind your own pick-ups too young man."

He went on longer, but I think you get the drift.

Enjoy the interview Gabriel. Any time spent in his presence is time to be treasured!

And we forgive the typo on the date in your posting. We know you meant Tuesday June 9.

Your recording "Chester and Lester" with Chet Atkins remains a reference standard for those interested in hearing what virtuosity sounds like. Did you two have as much fun as it seems making this album, and what two guitar players of today do you see as qualified to make a contemporary version? Maybe Mark Knopfler and Johnny A?

Note to forum - For those of you that haven't heard this recording, seek it out. It will blow you away.

I would ask him if he has an accurate calendar (Tuesday is June 9).

In his wildest dreams did he ever expect that the Les Paul series of guitars would become the defacto standard for electric guitars and all these years later still be so desired by professional and hobby guitar players?

Does he find it humbling (or perhaps even embarrassing from an ego standpoint) that his name is synonomous with guitar excellence?
