pohatu771
As a completely un-trained person, I'd say simply "vintage sunburst." [EDIT] Based on Musician's Friend, I'm changing my answer to "Dark Burst."

crossroadsnyc
Lighting can't always tell the true story, but I'd say either a Tobacco or maybe even a Bourbon (kind of leaning this way).
FennRx
axe wins! tobacco doesnt have the red it in it. TB occurs after the red fades out.
oceantracks
Turns out it is a Faded Tobacco. I found the original link here: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://jeffsguitarvault.com/fs/130-08LPR8FT/12.jpg&imgrefurl=http://jeffsguitarvault.com/fs/130-08LPR8FT/&usg=__f5MJUaW7ap4XZ58b1vsvNlYClG0=&h=768&w=1024&sz=116&hl=en&start=12&um=1&tbnid=LAegabYKhYe-4M:&tbnh=113&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dles%2Bpaul%2Btobacco%2Bsunburst%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den-us%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 What is weird though, is if you go on the Gibson site for this guitar, the Faded Tobacco they show looks bizarre, nothing like it. Check it out: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/1958-Les-Paul-Plain-Top-VOS-/Finishes.aspx Is there a Faded Tobacco AND a Faded Tobacco Sunburst??? FennRx
The original picture is a Darkburst. gibson must be doing their famous switcharoo! unexplicably, gibson occasionally calls DB TB and TB DB. i dont know why....but Darkburst has red in it, TB does not regardless of what Gibson calls the finish at this moment in time. AXE®
That's the most cruel thing i have ever seen. If THAT"S the most cruel thing you've ever seen you need to get out of the house more often. And don't watch a family fall apart because of a divorce or death.
saturn
I would say the "color" is brown As for the style of burst, I agree with whatever AXE says.
bobv
Customer Service will tell you the color and shipping date based on the serial number. Shoot them an email and they'll tell you. Just don't ask for a trussrod wrench. Also, under the neck pickup there's usually a color code written on the body. You can also decipher the color from the model number code, assuming you have the warranty/inspection card matching your serial number.

bobv
Thank you, Axe. I forgot to point out that it is a very nice looking color, by the way. If only I had the presence of mind to get out the videocamera last time I was baiting varmints into a funnel-ator...
