A new way to afford a Gibson Les Paul

Just thought I'd let people know about a new initiative being run by the Arts Council in the UK.

Basically, they pay the interest on a loan for you to buy any instrument upto the value of £2000. 10% of the instrument's value must be paid at the point of purchase, followed by 9 equal monthly instalments.

That's how I've just got my first Gibson. I pay £185 a month and it's working out ok.

Unfortunately this scheme is only available in the UK.

Here's the link...

Cheers,

Jonny

Well I couldn't do it in my name as I don't have a credit rating as yet. I had to do it in my dad's name who's in his 60s and pay him monthly instead so anyone can do it. It's only available at certain shops (PMT is one, that's where I got mine).

The great thing about it is, even if you wanted a guitar that was £400 (which wouldn't be half bad), that's just £40 a month- great!

Jonny

P.S- Some online retailers are offering this now like GAK and Dolphin I believe.

What a wonderful incentive for people to appreciate music. Research has proven that learning to play a musical instrument expands your mind and skills both physically and mentally. For younger people, it aids in mathematical skills, teaches problem solving and discipline. For the older generations, the adage goes: “music calms the savage beast”. It certainly is a great way to end a long and hectic day after work.

Too bad that there isn’t and probably won’t be such a program in the US with the present economy the way it is. At any rate, no matter how we legitimately acquire our Gibbys, it is money well spent.

Play On!

I have a better idea for the United States: how about we start seeing lower taxes & less government interference? When you are not forking over half of your money to the government, you have more money to consume the products you want - such as a new guitar or other gear.

I'm so sick and tired of this notion that the government should be playing a role in every aspect of our lives. When you take into consideration the amount of money that is just absolutely thrown away (bail out package(s) to the tune of about $50 billion for GM as ONE example anyone?), don't you think that's money that, through tax cuts, would stimulate the economy through consumer spending far more than any government interventionism can, has, or will do?

We have a $17+ billion budget deficit here in the State of New York - yet, our governor and elected leaders, have elected to increase spending by 9% - would any of you do that with your own balance sheets? And how do they plan on paying for the increased spending? Yes ... increasing taxes on those of us who basically carry the state as it is ... and now we're in the process of going through a historic coup in the state capital as a result (though this coup is could be considered clownish at best).

cutting taxes = more money in your pocket = increased consumer spending = increased job growth = increased research & development = tax cuts for business = even more job growth = more revenue production for everyone involved (including the government). as you can see this is a healthy repeating cycle (for which I could go into much greater detail).

Higher taxes = the government decides what you need, how much it will cost, and when you will get it (if you will at all). this isn't healthy.

While I appreciate foreigners weighing in on our "war spending" ways, the fact of the matter is that our spending problems far surpass that which has been designated for the defense of our country (how quickly some of us forget that 3,000 people lost their lives just a couple miles from where I am now writing this - and through no fault of their own). Our spending problems began in ernest when George Bush passed the buck to Obama by getting the United States government involved w/the affairs of private business right here on Wall Street ... which as now spread like cancer to other segments of the economy like the previously mentioned automotive industry.

George Bush, and now Obama, are doing nothing more than reliving the 70's on steriods. You think it's bad now? Just wait until inflation starts to hit in the next 2-4 years. For Christ sake, even the communist Chinese are all but begging us to control our spending.

Really, the last thing the United States government needs to do is helping people w/consumer purchases. Guitars included.

Save your money and earn your new gear the old fashioned way - by working for it.

I'm curious, how high are the taxes in the US?
