how hard is it to replace the tailpiece of the '61 reissue and add the one with the silver cover?

How hard is it to replace the tailpiece of the '61 reissue and add the one with the silver cover? The reason I want to try this (if it doesn't alter the guitar much) is that I think it could use more weight back there to keep the neck from tipping.
Here's a better fix--go to a hardware store & buy some large washers--not too thick--and tape them to the inside of the plastic control cavity cover. Make sure the tape covers them completely so they dont ground out. Or use a leather strap--that works even better. I do that with my '61--no tipping problems.

If you're talking about a Maestro/Lyre "Deluxe" Vibrola, you might not like the stoptail holes peeking around it, or what you'd have to spend to get an actual "Gibson" engraved one.

Get yourself a Vibramate and a B5 Bigsby, and you'll not only increase the mass on the rear of the guitar enough to ease the neck-dive, but you'll also have a great "no-mod" modification (can ALWAYS be undone without damage to your guitar!!!) that'll make that guitar into a really versatile machine...just ask Mick Taylor! (of course his had a factory-equipped Bigsby)

I put one of those rigs on my Epi "Vintage" model and it added considerable balance, looks bada$$ and gave that guitar new life.

I'll get a photo of the Vibramate-equipped Epi tomorrow or so (really kinda has the Mick Taylor vibe going on now, and that pleases me). I thought I'd posted up pictures before but maybe I need to take a few "pinup" shots of the ladies just for the helluvit. :D/

Stay tuned!

I was using a leather strap but it was only about 3 inches wide. I got a much wider leather strap ( maybe 4 inches with rough hide on the underneath for more friction and that has helped quite a bit - problem is solved for the most part.

I would love to see pictures of the instalation of that tremelo bar. No mods is what I'd like to get if I can find one that works well.
