Pilot
I owe a 1980 Gibson ES Artist Guitar. The Serial Number is 80500107. Thus, it has been built Febr., 19th, 1980 in Kalamazoo. Active electronics is developed by Moog. That's about what I know. Does anybody have details about this instument? Is there any information or www-links about the ES Artist models at all? They are extremely hard to find. I am also wondering how often they have been built? Who has played them ? Any feedback is highly appreciated. superslonic
Hi! You can find information about this guitar in gibson 1980 catalogue http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/gib80p33.php And I can tell that Edgardo Miranda used to play on this model. Mustache Guitar Repairs
I made a post about one that I came across a few weeks ago, do you have any pics of yours?
zurdo
it was an expensive ES-335 with some active electronics and some cosmetic details. Maybe what the ES-335 should have been?
rickc
I've had one for about 20yrs. It's fantastic to play and has a very odd range of tones. The electronics were a late 70's fad that didn't last. Lots of owners pulled the electronics out and beefed-up the pickups; the stock ones were deliberately low output. I have an ES-335 too. Love them both. Surprisingly the weight difference is only marginal; the Artist just a little heavier. The finish on the Artist is fantastic, especially the back; almost tortoise-shell.
