Well i think the V's and Explorers should get there own forum. Semi hollow and hollow body get their own. And a other gibson guitars forum.

Hell-ya Thats Want I'm Talking About.

or Their Own Catagory Along Side the

Les Paul and SG.

Like The Explorer and V Guitars.

I think it has to do more with the amount of traffic it gets on the forum compared to other guitars.

The entire "other guitars" section doesn't get nearly as much traffic as the Les Paul or SG section.

Obviously Gibson wouldn't diss one of their own. Explorers are cool. You should be happy they aren't as popular as LPs or SGs. I think that's a good thing.

Explorers rule, the neck profile, the balance, the fret access, good stuff.

I had a great Explorer (and V) night I just came from the Metallica show and Hetfield played about 6 Explorers, 3 of them were Gibson for sure also him and Hammet played some V's those were Gibsons too. He also played his Iron Cross LP and Kirk played his black Custom LP.

You all forget. The Explorer and V was never part of the "standard" Gibson Line (like the Modern), as a matter of fact, they're still not. Do they make/sell them? Yes, but not HALF as many as the LPs and SGs, mainly because of their less-traditional/unconventional look. They're just...weird! Plus! LPs and SGs look WAY better, and are more visually appealing (figured/flame maple tops, binding (LP), better tonal options, etc).

Personally, I think the Explorer/Flying V should have its own area.

Both Korina, both developed and introduced in parallel.

I had a V, liked it.

Someday I'll get nice '58 Reissue.

Played the Explorer alot, a buddy of mine owns one and I've gigged with it.

Just not my thing.

Still, I see the appeal of both models.

LPs and SGs are more, visually apealing, and as far as tonal options? Explorers only have 1 tone control (LPs and SGs have TWO), not two mention with exception of most SGs, the LP has a maple top (which adds to it's tonal properties/capabilities/characteristics). I'm not saying that Explorers/Vs suck, because I actually would like to have one (or both), as I do like the way they sound. I was merely explaining why they're not held as high as the rest of the Gibson EG line.

I don't think the thread was about the cons of Explorers or V's, quite the opposite. Think of it aas a rethorical question.

But...

SGs actually have never been considered "pretty" guitars, terrible balance, thin body, overall fragile. les Paul did not want his name on 'em.

LPs are great but the upper fret access sucks, past the 14th fret is a struggle. Flame is not imporant to a lot of people, not to me that is for sure.

The Explorer is a very well balanced guitar with a nice thick mahogany body, thicker than the SG and better sounding. The fact that they put hot pickups on the Explorer is another story, half SG models come with not so popular pickup models too.

My Explorer has TWO tone controls by the way, that was an easy change. You are right it gives me more tonal options.

Explorers and Vs are not for the faint of heart. I have a LP and and Explorer and use the explorer when I want to stand out. LP and SG are more subdued looks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, people. I'm sure the fact remains that Explorers and Vs owners are all of a certain demographic and not large enough to need their own forum. Who gives a s*** anyway? You sill found it. =P~ Next topic.
