djroge1
The opening section of Aerosmith's version of Train Kept a Rollin' (the slowed down part) has some of my favorite guitar riffs and I'm not sure who is playing the lead but they have an absolute killer tone. I think this is one tune all the younger players here need to listen to for both licks and tone. Just thought I'd share my opinion...

cwness
DJ Great tone on that tune. In the first band I was in we did that tune. I saw video and I believe it was Brad doing the lead. The first amps I had were Ampegs a 60 watt VT 40 with 4 10" Speakers and a V4 100 watt. I was close to the tone but it wasn't untill I got my JTM 50 watt that I was able to nail it. Ya I just went in and tested it again and that's the ticket that JTM just does it justice. Thanks for the memories. CW
FirstMeasure
That's interesting. I've been listening to that tune for Years and assumed it was Joe playing the lead, but now that you mention it, it sounds cleaner and more deliberate than Joe Perry. Always a favorite of mine and a great song for Beginners and Seasoned Veterans alike. I don't know why I can't get my band to play it.

CW Relistening to this song the other day has caused a great GAS for me wanting a Marshall amp (I guess that would be AAS). After these next two amp builds for some other guys I think I'm going to build an amp based on some Marshall design, now to decide which one. djroge1
I'd say that video is proof that Brad played on the album. Joe is just way too slopy and off in certain spots and the tone just isn't there. I will say that Joe has gotten a lot better over the years. But hey he's famous and making a living doing this so what do I know?

But hey he's famous and making a living doing this so what do I know? I was thinking the opposite, that Perry did play the lead parts. I don't think the guitarists would switch roles like that. I understand that Whitford played lead on the few songs he wrote, like Round and Round from Toys In The Attic. Checking out Wikipedia, many guitar players played on this track, but I do think Perry played the lead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_Your_Wings
cwness
I stand corrected I guess it could have been Joe but that's not the video I saw. It is pretty strong evidence thou. CW
