I thought there was an app on the Iphone that could help you out, but since you don't have one I guess you get the information the 2nd best way...

Opening up sounds like making changes with either the volume control and/or tone control usually by using different values on those controls and/or different capacitors. It's hard to say exactly what the guy at the store means by that phrase "open up for sound"

You still don't have an iPhone?

Jeez, I bet it costs less than Les Paul guitar mods.

And would probably go a long ways toward generating the spousal goodwill required for a major amp purchase...

:-k

Years ago I bought a cheapo Danelectro with the stacked tone/volume controls.

Loved it!!!

I've found some confusion in terminology regarding the same sort of mod in a LP but I call it parallel wiring.

This allows the neck controls and bridge controls to function completely independently.

Set the volume/tone where you want for each neck - even rolling one volume all the way down.

They wouldn't affect each other in any way.

As it is now, if you select both pickups and turn one down it blocks the signal from the other.

The coil splitting is always a great boost for versatility, but may not be possible with the pickups from the factory.

If there's only two leads coming from the pickup, you're outta luck - gotta have four.

There's a capacitor mod that's done to speed up the tone's effect when you turn it down to cut treble.

Maybe your guy is doing this?

Does he know what he's doing or is just charging you money for some made-up crap that you can't see?

Anyhow, good luck with it.

P.S.,

I wouldn't do ANYTHING to the guitar until you have a good tube amp.

Hubby just might find all those 'problems' with his beautiful Les Paul seem to disappear.....

Just sayin'.....

Bleh independent wiring. I had that, didnt like not being able to fully turn off the guitar. Yet I can't do that now anyways in the middle selection even back at stock. normal?

Tell your husband that Tim recommends also replacing the pots & caps in that guitar to CTS pots and paper in oil caps.

^ Listen.... ^

:-)

So, Tim...

What exactly is "50's Style" doing here?

I don't follow the diagram.

On a Tele, it's skipping the tone pot.

And is his guitar equipped with the new PCB like the 2008 Standard (and pretty much everything else now....)???

I had a post on here a while back lost know in the melt down.. It was of a mod I

on a guitar one of my students was buying. Long story short the shop put stock

gibson wiring back and I put it in one of my Standards. I have been tracking it

down to see what it is. It works great. Volume is not on or off you can gradually

go from one to ten the way I always thought it should work. It's the same with the

tone. In the middle position you can adjust tone on either pickup they are individual and same with the volume.. I', to pull it out and try it the SG to see

if it has the same results there. If so I be verifing thet parts and put it in all my

guitars. The guitar that had the mod was purchased in Nashville so I'm trying to

get a hold of the guy who has since started his on shop to find out what was used or order it from him. I'm getting such a wide spectrum of sound in the middle position it's great.
