Wayne
Curious if anyone has tried their BG-140, which appears to be a J-45 imitation. I hear they dont sound quite (or even much) like one but am interested to know other opinions, or how they fare in their own right. I have owned a couple Blueridges and was quite pleased for the price, and even for more than the price.
DB_Cooper
Hi Wayne, I've got both, the Blueridge is supposed to be a river rafting/campfire guitar, but it gets a bit more use than that. It's lighter built than my J-45, a bit brighter, less complex, and even skinnier neck than the Gibby. That said, it's very satisfying to play, and still has some of that J-45 growl to it. If you can find a used one (the new ones have gone up) they can be a great deal, especially compared to the Gibson. You'll need to swap out the tuners to something better, I put Grover Statites on mine, and they work great and look pretty good on that hideous headstock. Wayne
Thanks, haha, the headstock isnt as hideous as some other Blueridges but I know what you mean. And I love the Blueridge necks. Too bad it doesnt sound quite like a Gibson but oh well. I think I'd like to try one anyway.
Jinder
I like Blueridge guitars, I nearly bought one of their spangly OM RW models, to the point where I was literally in the shop with the cash in my pocket, but the necks are just too narrow for me. They're well built, though. Another brand to try out is the Guild GAD series. I have a GAD 30R Rosewood OM (that I bought instead of the Blueridge), and it's superb. So much bang for the buck, it's unbelievable. Small body, amazing projection, just drips that RW tone. Lovely 1 1/4" nut width, too, so the neck has tons of room to move about with my sausage fingers.
Wayne
I couldnt even hope to play a neck that wide. What some people have done successfully with Blueridges is to install a nut with wider spacing. It only buys you a little but sometimes that is enough.
