hey whats the difference?

On the VOS, the finish is lightly faded, to make it seem more vintage. On the 61 Reissue, the finish is hi-gloss. On the VOS, there are Burstbucker pickups. On the 61 reisssue, there are '57 classic pickups. So the only differences are the finish, and the pickups.

Plus the VOS has a ABR-1 bridge whilst the 61RI has a (non historically correct) Nashville. Early 61RI's have an ABR-1.

so whats the point spending more cash on the guitar with the light finish? is it true the sg reissue is a one piece of wood guitar? what about the standard and other models?

Well, that's exactly why most people buy the '61 reissue. Because they'd rather not pay more money for a lighter finish. '61 reissues are made from 1 piece of wood almost always. Same with the standard but some other models tend to have more than one piece of wood.

I think a lot of people prefer the 57 Classics to Burstbuskers as well as a nice cherry red gloss finish over the more correct aged looking faded orangish of the VOS.

Well, yeah, that too. Burstbuckers don't really make that heavy sound that SG's are known for.

whats an abr-1? if you had the cash what would you buy the 61 RI or the VOS one?

Honestly, if I had the cash, I would buy the VOS one. That's only because I like faded finishes alot, and I would just change the pickups to '57 Classics. But that's only me. If you don't mind hi-gloss finishes, then go with the '61 Reissue. It sounds better, in my opinion.

If the cash didn't matter' date=' I'd buy a VOS, but there is quite a difference in price. I wouldn't buy a VOS since it isn't good value.

I saved even more money by waiting for an older '61RI in prime condition to come up one ebay that had an ABR-1. That way it ticks all the boxes for it being a reissue. The '57 Classics sound good (the burstbuckers on my R7 Gold Top sound good too, just a little different).

I've gigged mine quite a bit and it always gets admired, especially as the nickel is aging. I often get asked how old it is.
