I have two stories. One for a Goldtop Gibson LP Deluxe which is long gone and one for my current LP which I will never get rid of.

Goldtop: One day I went to Tower Grove Music in Fenton, MO. I saw the first Goldtop I had seen in years hanging on the wall. (They were kind of rare at the time). I asked the salesman if he would take a trade-in of my Electra-Omega. He said he'd look at it. I drove home and came right back. Made the deal and never looked back. It was all spur-of-the-moment. I had not even considered buying a new guitar until I saw it on the wall. I think I got it for my Omega plus a couple hundred. The guitar was going for about $650 with case.

Classic Antique: Dreaming of one day getting a LP Classic Heritage Cherry Sunburst and haveing played several different LP's at my local Guitar Center, it was still a dream. I kept telling myself someday I would get a Gibson Les Paul again. I started following the Gibson Guitar of the Week Promotion in April, 2007. Every Tuesday, I would wait anxiously for the new weekly guitar to show up on the Gibson Web-Site. Sometime in June, I started browsing internet stores. I found First Quality Music which showed every week since January. I saw GOW#2 and fell in love. I acted on the spur-of-the-moment again, picked up the phone and for the first time bought a guitar on-line without even playing it. I asked the salesman to send me some pictures of the exact guitar and he responded with about 30 pictures. I got the guitar less than a week later and she & I will never part. The reverse Fireburst finish made me forget about the Heritage Cherry for awhile..Maybe someday.....

Every guitar has a story but this is the most recent.

This story is about a Firebird Studio in Classic White. As many of you may or may not know the Firebird Studio was made for a couple years and a few years ago then disc. They made a smaller run of the guitar in Classic White. At the time I wanted one really bad but couldn't afford it alas the Classic White ones sold out quite quick leaving the Cherry and Ebony which were disc. 4 years pass and my wife found a "used" one in excellent condition and bought it for me to celebrate my first Fathers Day. My son who was 7 months at the time and my wife gave me something I will never forget. It's a beautiful guitar and it has become my #1.

Three good luck stories, so I'll try to be brief.

1) As a sax player doubling on the real guitar player's second guitars, I was in a band with a 335 player. I played his "other" guitar on songs with no sax part. A year or two later I saw what I thought was a 335 in a music store for $300.00 (I didn't know much about guitars then) so I bought it. It turned out to be a 1970 ES-330, and I love the sound much better than the sound of a 335.

2) When I decided to get serious about guitar, the 330 had become a collector's item and Gibson hadn't re-issued the 330 yet so I went to GC to get a new Casino. I fell in love with the wood grain of a used one, and just had to have it. It didn't have a scratch on it, and there was absolutely no fret wear. I also noticed the tuners had been changed to Grovers. Traded in a Kramer/Focus/Faux-Strat for exactly what I had into it. Eventually found out the previous owner upgraded the switch and pots to US parts and replaced the pickups with Duncans. All of this for $325 plus my $100 Focus/case combo.

3) I got an LTD EC-50 for almost nothing, but although the sound of the overwound humbuckers was great, it just wasn't appropriate for the audiences I play for (yacht clubs, country clubs, etc.). So it became my first mod and I (1) Changed the pups to GFS Mean 90s (2) Rewired for 1V-1T control (3) installed a Big D Varitone (4) added my duo's Logo The Sophisticats. The neck is great, the build of this guitar is flawless, it's well balanced, and it now sounds great and more often than not is my main gigging guitar.
