Gibson Maestro - don't be confused...

Coupla years ago I saw a magazine article on First Act.

Seems they have a Custom Shop here in the US that makes some killer guitars, quality woods and finishes.

Pricey as hell, but it made me wonder one thing....

No matter how badass it is, could you list your First Act custom guitar on Ebay for $3,000?

Good luck with that.....

For people like us those guitars are a joke. But for someone who is just beginning to play guitar and want a "gibson", that's not too bad. You have to start somewhere; hopefully whoever buys those will develop GAS and work their way toward a real Gibson.

My gf's dad bought her little sister one (the LP) for Christmas last year, and I have to say, they're really not bad. They're definately not as good as most, but save for a few neck/fret problems, they can [with a proper setup] sound/feel as good as a "real" Gibson. This is just Gibson's answer to Fender's Squire line, just like the LP was Gibson's answer to the Esquire. I can't wait to see what they (both companies) come up with next.

first act's custom shop is where they make their money. They make some great guitars in the custom shop. The other stuff not so much.

Will you stop talking like you actually know something?

Cheap guitars IS WHERE THE MONEY IS for most brands (in fact for all of the brands producing cheap guitars, including gibson). If not then they wouldn't build them.

You can sell 1000 guitars over 30K, you can sell 100.000 between 2K and 29K, but you as sure as hell will sell millions of $99-$250 guitars.

-Expensive guitars are more difficult/costly to produce than cheapos... they require hand work and more time, making them requires more room, it also requires more money on marketing so you can create that hype that makes everyone want one and do whatever to be able to buy one.

-Cheapos are made by machines and produced from really cheap materials, you can have hundreds out of the factory and ready to ship/sell each day, they cost way less to produce and are easily introduced and placed.

Just sayin' :-

I have played on a few Maestros, can't find them at any music stores though (SUBTLE HINT :- )

I have to say I am embarrassed that Gibson even put their name on them, Epiphones have some great models, that I like more than Gibson, but I would never say that a Maestro "can feel like a real Gibson" unless you are willing to put some serious amounts of money into it

IMO that line will only end up hurting them, Epi makes some great guitars for less than 200 and they are good for the money, but those things, at least the few I have played were atrocious
