deepblue
A buddy bought a Boss CE 20 Chorus Ensemble. It sounded amazing so I had to have one for myself... I called my local shop...They had one left. Zipped down, picked her up. I was told..Oh ya, it was used one time as a rental for 3 days. I wasnt thrilled but took it anyway. Long story short... I opened the box, there was some kind of sauce spilled on the face of the pedal, there were a few scratches on the side and if that werent bad enough, the inside of the box smelled like cigarettes. Called the shop back and told them to order me a new one....in the box, wrappers intact. How do people do this crap to something that doesnt belong to them?....or, why doesnt L&M check the pedal when its brought back? Im sure a deposit has to be left if its a rental....if it comes back it a bad way keep the deposit. This is why I never buy anything used.
surfpup
Used gear is a crap shoot for sure. The condition you describe is deplorable for a pedal that was rented once! I've found some good stuff though. In fact, I didn't like the Boss chorus I bought at all, so I took a chance on a used 80s era Ibanez CS-9 on eBay and loved it much more than the new Boss (which I sold immediately). Ya just never know.
Andre S
This is the reason I don't order a used Reissue off of Ebay for the same price as a new traditional plus.

Thundergod
This is why I never buy anything used. Same here blue... nothing used, you can never know what kind of asswhipe the previous owner was and what he was into.
rocketman
I got burned enough times that I always buy new now. Happens to everyone, but you certainly have a right to vent in this case...
Laney1566
Sucks that you went through that. I have had situations like that where the music store says they have something just to find out what they have is used. They are the ones to blame on this. Even if they rented it out, they should have checked it out when they got it back. Also..Never buy without looking inside the box:-" I use a CE20 myself. Love it. I use it to run stereo outs.. If you have 2 amps...the chorus comes alive!!!
djroge1
That's a bummer of a story and I hope it will work out for you in the end. Buying used is hit or miss sometimes. I've been pretty fortunate thus far.

tazzboy
Hey deepblue not to start an argument but how come you didn't open other at the shop before you bought? I'm trying to start war of words here, but a little common sense would say inspect the product and demo it before you buy it.
Hillybilly
stupid question...did you not open the box before you took it home?
NeoConMan
Bought plenty of guitars used, but I was a little more careful about the merchandise when the money moved... Pedals and effects? No way. New or nothing.
ledzep59
I like used guitars if the guitar isn't beyond the point of no return. I've always appreciated the played, worn-in feel.
NeoConMan
Not me. I like the all but brand new, kept in the case, beautiful example for a great price feel. :-)

Silenced Fred
I don't mind buying used gear as long as I can try it out first Guitars-sure Amps-maybe Pedals-nuh uh Sorry maybe just me, but something like a pedal, would rather buy new It is all a game of chance, only guitar I have bought used though is off a friend, so I felt really good about it, knowing it wasn't an anonymous sale and he wouldn't screw me over on it

All the tapes had an orange sticker that warned "$1 charge for tapes not re-wound." About half of what I rented had to be re-wound before I played them. Either no one was really checking or they charge the buck and let someone else re-wind. At one point I began checking myself and had THEM re-wind it before I left the store. Some got a little huffy, but hey... they didn't refund me a dollar because I had to re-wind it.
NeoConMan
i thought you've never owned any pedals neo?? (except for your boss tu-2 and your new fulltone ocd) Bought a few over the years as gifts. Seen the experiences everybody I know suffered through over the last 30 years. Seen why my dealer usually won't touch them, and seen what Guitar Center does to customers. Know enough to make a decision on the matter. :-)
