G u e s t
The 350 guests thing just before the crash thing..... Makes me wonder along the lines of Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Sure, it ain't nothing new, but if'n you have ever been the Admin and had an attack, you know how impotent it can make you feel. In this case the numbers seem too small, but maybe it was the perpetrators rubber-necking before the event just to confirm that their work was succesfull. Interestingly, since early August this year, there has been an increase in DOS and DDOS attacks, causing problems for the big boys like Facebook, Twitter, LiveJournal, Gawker and others. There have also been hundreds of smaller attacks every day, and if they can pose a threat to outfits with massive server farms with built in redundancy and protection, it is not too hard to see how a system floating on a cloud could be brought down easily. No solution or answers or nothing - just cogitating on it. But let's face it - this forum speeds up and slows down, sometimes even grinds to a halt, and that's on a good day..... Jesus told his disciples "Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell — and great was its fall." Now I have no desire to put words into his mouth, but you could substitute cloud for sand, and it still makes perfect sense.
NeoConMan
perpetrators rubber-necking ... their work was succesfull.DOS and DDOS attacks' date=' There have also been hundreds of smaller attacks every day [/quote'] To what end? That's the one thing I still cannot grasp with all the viruses and attacks, why? What does it gain them? Seems there are pathways to profit for very few of these guys, is it mostly just malice and spite? No penalty too severe in my opinion. I have suggestions.... G u e s t
. . Mindless Vandalism. Some of the big attacks have had a commercial/political aspect. But usually it's geeks enhancing their manhood and seeking the kudos of being able to say "I brought down the [NAME] site..... .
