R9 1 year later...

Ive had my R9 a year now.

Its still the best guitar I have ever owned. When im player her its screams rock n'roll. It gets into a vein that my other guitars cannot.

Listen to guys like Tim' date=' Fenn etc...

There is a difference.

i think you've been hogging that R9 long enough...send it to me at once! =)

Rachel, 3 years after I got her. She has a number of dings, scratches, wear on back of the neck, and even some slight checking (a couple trees < 1in. by the neck tone knob) from the stress of the push/pull pots onto the little needle that tells you the volume/tone level. I love it.

Glad somebody's listening but I've given up. No more recommendations from me.

People (not all but some) are just plain old retarded and I'm tired of wasting my time trying to convince them. Plain & simple, historic reissues are better than their Gibson USA counterparts. That's not saying USA Les Pauls arn't great guitars but the fact is, historics are better. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, you don't.

Well, I for one would love to "get it", but the fact is I will never be able to afford the collection of guitars you have amassed in only a year or two, Tim. Some of us can't afford the historics. It's that simple.

I got it Tim, but not just from you. I took the time to do side by side comparisons and like I have said my R9 is simply better than all others I played. Though it is handsdown better it is not, however, $3K better IMO. That takes with me anyway the whole I turned 50 this year too blah blah yadda yadda thing to justify the $3K as I'm sure I would be happy with a Traditional Plus, one that I would not be afraid to take out of the house - unlike the R9. Oh I'll play it regularly, just finished, but taking it to play with friends or gig forget it.

May own a Traditional yet . . . just for that very reason.

I love how my R9 plays' date=' but the BBs are just a tad too hot for me. Any suggestions on some good PUPs to replace 'em with? [/quote']

Hot?...BB's 1&2 have low vintage output. My bridge pup is 8.25k and my neck is 7.69k

They are all in same ballpark....you sure your pups are stock?...did you buy new or used?

if you can afford a Les Paul Standard, you can afford a Historic- though maybe used. The R7/R8 is by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to Reissues.

i certainly couldnt afford all the guitars that some of you guys have, but i know the Historics i have played locally tend to be of better quality than their USA counterparts.

Subjective of course. ymmv

:) hmmmm.. So thats what mine would look like with the pickguard fitted...

Regards

Yeah....I was thinking exactly the same when i saw yours without the pickguard. Mine already had the pickguard fitted when i got it and i've always wondered what it would look like without it.

Thanks flight959.

No you're not being cheeky, You're right, I've just never got around to taking it off thats all. Whenever i pick it up i just wanna play it rather than get out a screwdriver.

How much did you pay for your Standard Faded?

No, you're right, it's not (say) 2-1/2 times better than a new Traditional.

=P~

The only problem that I mentioned before about buying used Tim' date=' is my mom thinks its too risky especially since its in another country. If however I could have seen it ad checked it out before buying, then buying used would have been no problem... default_eusa_wall.gif
