Which oldie but goodie is this model?

In the "Lay it Down" video (where he is being interviewed first) he plays a '64 J-45, according to the interview.

I don't see other Gibsons in the videos he has there.

I hadn't heard his version of 'Your Grace is Enough', thanks -- we play that song probably every other month or so.

Thanks Fred -

I am evaluating Gibson's for my next guitar. As a contemporary worship leader however, it is important that it blends well with my voice. I've narrowed it down to an AJ and J-45...two different beasts.

mjg:

I alternate between several guitars when playing in the worship bands I'm in, but I tend to favour maple Gibsons the most, which for me are selected from a J-185, a maple SJ (fancier version of the J-45), and a J-200Jr.

The maple has the cut to take you through the band, and the tonal range fits with the voice quite well.

The alternative guitars to that are mahogany or koa. Although I have some rosewood guitars too, I tend to gravitate towards the 'brighter/mellower' end of the tonal spectrum, if I can put it that way.

So -- without knowing a thing about you, your playing style or other things -- I would advise you in the direction of the J-45 over the AJ. The AJ is a great guitar, don't get me wrong, but for band playing, I'd venture that the J-45 is the more versatile instrument.

Good luck.
