Blackie
The stock pickguard is transparent? Thats fugly. The new one looks wicked. Yeah I have no idea why they put that on there and even played it up in advertising cause the routing being visible doesn't work for me.
Dub-T-123
Looks better. I actually kindof like it now. I too hate the translucent pickguard. Â Have you thought about covering the pickups? Â By the way nice job filling in the routing. It's hardly noticable in the pictures.
NeoConMan
Good job Blackie! Â You got more balls than I do, I woulda just screwed a factory batwing onto it. Â Looks fantastic! Â And yeah, cover the pickups. Looks like a car with two hubcaps missing.... Â :D/

Twiz
Man, I gotta agree with GIANTRobOT420 in your quote. You are a mad scientist! Â Your SG looks killer with that new pick guard. I bet you're the only person on the planet with a pick guard like that on a RP. Nice work.
Blackie
So did the kitty help ya? Do you actually leave any guitars stock? Jeez' date=' I wish I was that talented to do that. I am considering purchasing a 3 layer B/W/B full pickguard (like on the standards) for mine. Ya beat me to the punch again. lol[/quote']Â The cat supervised somewhat, and I did have a black SG Standard that was stock (no need for any change) but it was stolen and there is no record of the serial number so it is out there along with a million other black SG's. So I make sure to register any new guitars right away. The mods I have done to the RP may void the warranty but I have faith in the overall construction of Gibson guitars and am not worried about any problems. I am going to get some type bass next and turn it into an EB-3 shape unless I find an epi EB-3 bass somewhere cheap.
jameswithesg
wow...... thats great :D :D   thats how the raw power should look    a third p-up would be sweet, but thats just me i love electronics :D
Dub-T-123
Hey Jocko, not trying to be a jerk just trying to help... Â The standard actually has a 5 ply pickguard that is B/W/B/W/B. The TRC is just 2 ply B/W. Â And yeah I prefer the pups covered in this situation.
Blackie
Here ya go, these are not the right covers I just put um on so we can see the look might go with some nickle ones. Also I plugged it in and I see and hear why this needs to be done correctly. I might even just get new covered pups instead of gambling on doing it. duane v
I really want to do this pick-guard conversion but I would need to have a custom made one that would cover the channel cavity between the pup cavities.... Plus I would have to deal with the holes... So I guess the full sized PG stays for now. Â BTW, very nicely done=d>

duane v
oh wow didnt realize exactly what you did.well done.  Yeppers  He had to fill in that channel between the pups and outside of the bridge pup cavity, and all those little holes......  For me it's a bit much work for a PG..... It looks pretty '70s-ish. I agree that a third pickup would be cool. Usually I like the look of créme coils with a triple pickup guitar. But that would be heavy customization. Then again, many old SGs were routed for 3 pickups under the guard. You could always go back. It just might be a little costly...  Anyways I'll stop throwing ideas at you. Lookin good. Blackie
How is a 3 pup guitar wired ? is the middle switch position for all 3 on ?
Dub-T-123
You could do it that way. Â If I did it I would have a switch engage the middle pickup. I would install a push/ pull pot. I'm not sure about having volume or tone for the middle one. Â I think a push/ pull pot would be the cleanest way of doing it.

drumrnmuzik
Double wide for me, I don't like the pup mounting rings. Â BTW, why the hell does everyone put the same lenght screws on the pup mounting ring when one side is higher then the other ???? They're one of the first things to strip out on an older guitar... Blackie
I have exp with raising and lowering the pups and I have them not as close as they could be. At about 3/16''
Blackie
Maybe it's a quarter inch, it came set closer than that, not that that means anything. I try and have it close but undistorted, seems ok.
