J-185 12-String?

Yeah, I saw that light cherryburst one too on eBay. Nice guitar, and an pretty scarce (and pretty) finish too!

I used to have a 1999 model and it was very nice -- lush, full, well-balanced; a really nice 12-string. I think the small jumbo size, in maple, is a 'perfect fit' for a 12-string. It brings out the clarity of sound, and the smaller body provides both some punch in the tone, as well as a curb on the boom that you can get with the larger 17" jumbo body.

So I like the 16" maple jumbo for a 12-string.

I should note that I eventually got rid of my J-185-12 simply because of the neck geometry: it was a bit too big for my hands, and my hand would tire and cramp up on that guitar. I guess I need a 1.75 or smaller neck with a lowish profile, to play it more comfortably.

The eBay one looks nicely priced, for an unusual finish, and for what looks like a guitar in nice shape.

Yeah, it looks great, and I'm seriously considering charging it, but I can't get a straight answer out of the seller.

He said it originally had a built-in pickup. I assume that means it no longer does. If it doesn't, it was removed. So what was done with the hole from the jack? I asked him and I got back some jibberish about the pickguard.

Frustrating. So sick of eBay...

bkh. Very nice but I know what you mean about ebay. I'm not sure I would have the courage to buy it on ebay and the price looks to be fairly high for the US? I've not seen that sunburst before but it does have the all important crosses!

As Zombiewuff reminds us, I played a red 185-12 at the Gibson showroom in London earlier in the year and fell in love. Jinder has made some advances too in the past. It's not a cherry red like a 335 but more crimson. Beautiful colour for a 185. I've played a couple more as well and it will certainly be my next 12er.........someday.

Love the maple on the back of yours Zombiewuff.

Fuller's Vintage Guitar has one at a reasonable price. Can't go wrong with Fuller's

Indeed -- I'll second that thought.

Interesting' date=' it's a "Modern Classic", and as a bonus I guess they must be using up the leftover bridges with the maltese crosses:

Well, someone "buy it now"ed it. I emailed the seller three times, practically begging him just to explain to me what (if anything) he had done to the pickup, as his wording in the description was strange.

I can only console myself that there was something fishy and I am better off without the headache/disappointment.
