Magyar
Hi, I'm currently "looking after" my brothers SG which is cherry-red with a serial no 116366 imprinted into the back of the headstock. He has previously been told that this may not be a genuine Gibson but I suspect that the person telling him this may have had his own agenda; e.g. "it's not worth much but it's quite nice & I'll take off of your hands for £200 if you want"!! How can I check the provenance of this axe?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Magyar

L5Larry
Hope it has more than 6 digits for a serial number 8 or 9 would be more like it. From 1963 until some time in 1975 Gibsons had six digit serial numbers. 116366 would be from 70,71,72,74 or

I'm the lucky owner of an SG standard (cherry red) since I'm 16 y.o. (I'm now 45 :) ). I've it bought in 1980, and the number into the back of the headstock is 152142...checked and certified to be one of the first SG standard (after Gibson had abandonned to call it SG Les Paul...). So, it has been certified to be manufactured in December 1963, just 2 months before my birth... Still my baby for ever.... If it helps .... regards.
