johnnymac
I've recently inherrited a Gibson GA 40 amp from my father in law that I'm going to have restored over the next month. I'm trying to figure out what year it is, it has the original Jensen speaker (220512) and I was told that the numbers right after the 220 were the year, folowed by the week that year it was made, is that correct? johnnymac
Well it says Jensen on the speaker so it must be Jensen Speakers yeah i was sure of that, what I'm confused on is if that model number can be used to date the amp. Googling that number I found a couple of mid-early 60s amps (different maker) that had jensen speakers with that same number. Trying to be as informed as possible when I take the amp to have it repaired, any help is greatly appreciated!
johnnymac
I figured out I was interpreting the numbers wrong, the year is a single digit after the manufacturer code so it must be either a 55 or 65 and was made in the 12th week of that year....now to figure out 55 or 65... flameburst
johnnymac, it looks like a '55 model. I've got a '54 with the first design LP bakelite grille and yours looks to be the first year of the second design of the GA40 LP amp. Congrats - they sound superb.
