I'm 47. My first guitar was a 72 Telecaster Deluxe bought new in 72. It was my go-to guitar for years and I wish I still had her. I played strats (Fender and G&L) after that and started playing Gibson about four years ago. I now divide my time between an LP Standard Faded, '67 SG Reissue w/ P90s and a G&L Legacy. I need more eletrics!

Do most of you play Gibson acoustics?(if you play acoustic) I'm a Martin guy.

46... My wife told me to go get a LP for our 20th anniversary this year. That would be my first :).

Not unlike others here... used to gig and play out but gave it up for many years. Now that I finally have some disposable income (and disposable time) I am picking it back up....

...Didn't some one say "Marshall half stack"?O:)

Ha' date=' I'm 37 and my robot I got for christmas is my first Gibson. I bought a strat squire when I was 13 but sold it a few weeks later I then bought a Raven SG when I was 19, realy nice guitar I still play it today. Although I don't paly it as much as my Les paul is just so much better.

I am actualy thinking to start building my own guitars. I watched a web site from Jeff Miller and was so blown away by the guitars he was building I told myself that I had to try that. I am now Shopping around for the perfect wood and trying to find nitro lacquer here in Canada is no easy task. It will actualy cost me almost as much in materials as to buy a new Gibson but if I can build one near as good the felling of satisfaction will be worth so much more.[/quote']

Elvendio, wood is not that expensive nor is the lacquer. The hardest and most expensive part is buying the tools needed. You can get nitro lacquer at Lee Valley. They sell Deft nitro and poly clearcoats. It is pretty good for self levelling, with a minimal orange peel, but it will check easily, once applied. I suggest that you start out doing bolt on neck guitars with no neck angle, like Strats and work on basic woodworking, finishing and electronics first. Then if you are going to continue on with it, start looking at making your own necks later. Necks are the hardest part to make; and require the biggest number of, and most expensive, special equipment.

I bought my first Les Paul in 1980, after buying my first Strat. It was a Pro Deluxe. I was 16.

I'm 39. About 20 years ago, I worked in a music store and had a collection of about 18 guitars. As far as my first Gibsons, I had an early 70s ES-325, a early 80s Marauder and a mid 80s ES-335. I still kick my own *** every so often for selling that cherry 335.

After over 15 years of not owning a Gibson, I've been making up for lost time. It started two and a half years ago with an '05 SG Classic, an '03 SG faded a few months later, and then last summer I picked up a 2007 faded LP Standard. Between Christmas eve and the end of january this year I added a GOW '67 SG Special, a GOW Explorer with a short maestro, a 2001 LP Classic Plus, and finally an ES-339.

42, work in a nuke plant, married to a wonderful and understanding woman who is a Kindergarten teacher.

Four kids, 8-18.

Had the usual junk, cheapo, gimme guitars as a kid and struggled to learn anything beyond cowboy chords and rudimentary bass lines.

Had a Kramer Stryker in my mid twenties when a friend needed money.

I kept it as collateral for a couple years, and learned to do a little more Rock n Roll.

He showed up one day with cash, so I gave it back.

Got my first REAL guitar in 1993 after getting divorced, a new American Standard Strat. 3 color, Maple neck.

Bought a used pair of identical black Les Paul Standards and the collection started from there.

Owned over 40 guitars, bought several as gifts for people, and helped a few kids get started playing.

I sit in with a band sometimes, shake my house when I can with one of my Fender or Marshall amps, and basically do the old-guy-can-finally-afford-cool-gear schtick.

I have a little over twenty guitars as we speak, so I guess I'm a collector.

Finally learning some of those cool rock riffs....

I was 28 When I got my gibson SG faded november 2006. I just ordered a Trans gold Les Paul BFG today, hopefully it will be here just in time for the weekend.

My first guitar was a Samick strat style solid body HB/s/s no pickguard. havent seen one like it since. I think i was 19 when I got that guitar and soon after bought my first "real guitar" or what i considered real as in my eyes...an epi 1956 goldtop Les Paul. (neither of which I have now)
