rubenfonsbo
Hi there I have a Gibson SG of indeterminable age, and the only info I can find is the serial number which is 132095, and a stamp saying 'Made in USA'. According to various web sites that dates it to somewhere between 1970 and 1975, but does anyone know how to date it more accurately? L5Larry
Check the pot codes. The 4th and 5th digits are the year the pots were made. With the Gibson 100000 serial numbers that may be as close as you will ever get. Generally speaking the pots have a seven digit code, the first three digits designate the manufacturer (in Gibsons usually 137 for CTS), the next two are the last two digits of the year, and the last two are the week of that year the pots were made. So as an EXAMPLE, a pot with the number 1377252 would have been made by CTS during the 52nd week or 1972. You can use this information to approximate the build date of your guitar.
