Check out this BEARCLAW!!!!

I started a thread over in the lounge last week because of a black bear that had gotten into my trash. Today I mowed the lawn for the last time of the season (wearing a leather coat and mowing many leaves) and I came across.... um.... "evidence" that the bear had been there.

The woods were only 30 feet away. So much for that perennial rhetorical question.

Sounds like the makin's of a new Charmin commercial.

So uh.. was it a black or Grizz? Did it have berries in it, or did it have bell parts and reek of pepper spray?

All we have are black bears around here. I did give it a cursory glance, looking for bell parts, didn't find any. I believe Cartman described it best as "Hangover Black".

I mowed Wednesday; Thursday we got 6" of wet heavy snow. *sigh*. Thursday morning I was scrambling around, putting the mowers away, taking down the clothesline, covering the Farmall and the '42 K-5 with blue tarps and bungee cords.

Snow came early and I don't have any major build/rebuild projects cooking. It's going to be a looooong winter.

Picked it up in 2000 for $200. It hadn't run in about 11 years. It was made around April of '42 and the decree came down that International would cease production for consumer purchase shortly thereafter. To the best of my educated guessing' date=' the local dealer opted to pull it from the lot and keep it for their own use, delivery, etc., as it would have been anyone's guess when they could get another one because of the war. Remnants of "Henderson Farm Equipment" is visible through the old blue paint (it was originally red). The last owner used it on a logging road for several years to get to and from his camp. When he died, the son in law hauled it to his house where it sat another few years until I came along.

I haven't done much to it, rebuilt the carb, had the gas tank cleaned and relined, done a few hours of body work. I have no practical use for it but that has never been a barrier for me to own something.

Don't let the placid countenance fool you; it's a screaming beast capable of speeds up to 25 mph and I can shift gears in as little as 14.3 seconds.

The world will never know. At the first snowflake I cover it, or at least the cab because it's missing the back window. Ditto for the Farmall. Blue tarps are de rigeur. I didn't even UN-cover my boat this summer. It was just one of those summers where absolutely nothing got done. I think I put a grand total of about 60 miles on my motorcycle.

Maybe next year.

Our 6" of snow is gone. Didn't last long. That happens a lot here in the fall but back in '97 or '98 we got serious snow on 10/27 and it stayed. The sun is shining and it's a balmy 40 or so right now.
