pig140
I've noticed several J-45's from the 90's and one from early 2000's with plastic keystone knobs (like on a Les Paul) instead of plastic oval buttons. Did Gibson put those on some of these J-45's? Or did they all come with plastic oval buttons only to have these owners change them out?
gearbasher
My long gone '94 J-45 came with the greenish keystones. I kinda like 'em.
pig140
Hmmm...I have seen a few from the 90's with keystones. I'm looking at a 2004 that has keystone tuners and was curious if they were original. Did Gibson do them then? And why did some come with ovals and some keystones in the 90's? ponty
Montana J-45s nearly all came with the green keystone tuners. Throughout the 90s up to 97, when they introduced a "early model" which came with white buttons. Limited runs of course would probably be a mix of both. My 93 J-45s pictured came with keysones. During the last 10 months or so I changed them out for Tone pro Klusons, as you can see, white buttons. I love em!
pig140
So do you think it's possible that a 2003 or 2004 could have come with those?
ponty
Definately yes.
pig140
Thanks for the response! I've also noticed that some have a darker burst.
pig140
Ponty - love that J-45 you have! Nice dark burst and the white buttons look really good. I've been wanting a J-45 from between the early 90's to about 2003. Hoping to find one with some playwear so I won't be scared to mess it up. Watching a 2003 on eBay right now, not so sure about it tho (That's why I was asking about the keystones).
