IMF
What do people use as a guitar string cutter I'm sick of making do and blunting all the scissors and clippers in the house. Any recommendations ?

ksdaddy
I use a Leatherman and then use the needle nose to put a 90 degree downward bend in each.
DanvillRob
Dikes / wire cutters. I use the same thing...but we call them "side cutters" in the SF Bay Area. "Dikes" are something you see on "Bikes".

Dikes are something entirely different in the SF area! I use the pro winder: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/WinderPro/

DeVinci13
I use Park Tool cable cutter. It is designed to cut brake and shifter cables for bicycles. It cuts thru the strings like butter and leaves a nice clean end.

Big Bill
Dikes / wire cutters. I'm laughing on the outside. But what if one of your kids or wife run off with the things? This is a battle that I am losing at my house.
DanvillRob
But what if one of your kids or wife run off with the things? This is a battle that I am losing at my house. I keep mine in a briefcase with string winders, misc. guitar parts, etc. When my son lived in the house, a great many of my tools ended up "missing", but he never got into my briefcase!! RichCI
Nothing special; just a couple of cheap pairs of wire cutters (one pair for home, one in my Anvil case) that I picked up at Home Depot.

I think, if my wife ran off with a pair of dikes I'd probably just keep it to myself. ;)

And when I did, they KNEW better than to touch anything without permission.

ChanMan
image borrowed from Drillspot.com: http://www.drillspot.com I use something similar to these. Was $5 at Radio Shack, I think. It has nippers at the base. I also have a full set of industrial dikes, as well as bolt cutters, but I rarely have to use them on my Les Paul. RichCI
Thanks for the advise. Ahh perhaps stashing them in my underwear drawer will be a good deterrent? Believe it or not, that's where I keep my wire cutters, string winder, some extra tubes and other related items. Then again, I live in an apartment (not a ton of room) and that drawer has a divider in it - 3/4 for underwear, 1/4 for guitar stuff.

FirstMeasure
This here new fangled doodad. +1 for this Doodad. I used Wire Cutter/Dykes forever, but this thing grabs the string easily, nips it right off with no sharp end left over, and the rounded end of the tool is So Much Safer For The Headstock.
