New Ace Frehley album thoughts...

Recommended Posts

So,has anyone here heard it? I know that you Ace fans are lurking around here somewhere,so what do ya think, huh?

Me personally,I think it's good. Not great, mind you. But definitely he's strongest since his '78 solo album when he was still with KISS. I don't care much for the Sweet cover. But Genghis Khan,A Little Below The Angels,Outer Space & Fractured Quantum are cool.

His guitar sound still kicks arse.

Mmm. Interesting concept, except that KISS(and I use that loosely)are just but a very, very pale imitation of what they were. A mate offered to make a copy of the latest album and I told him not to bother. Just 'aint interested. Haven't been since Psycho Circus, and even that was mainly session musos or ring ins that Simmons and stanley decided to call in. SAD...

Agreed but thats just how it is. No mathematical formula involved or in depth lyrics needed. Straight to the point. Thats Rock.[biggrin] You want in depth listen to Joni Mitchell. His voice...yeah agreed too but he's only been throwing back booze and drugs for the better part of his life. That's Rock.#-o Yes,unfortunately. "But that's the way I like it",as the song goes...

No sweat deepblue. All's cool. Understood 100%. Observation noted and taken. Was just wondering was all what you're thoughts were and you frehley gave 'em. OK I'll stop now.

I like Outer Space. It has a cool vibe and is the standout song of the album IMO.

Some songs are quite introspective. A Little Below The Angels is ok except for the part when he starts talking to his daughter and then she songs (her singing is a little flat to my ear).

I thought his cover of Fox On The Run was pretty good.

I saw Ace in March 2008. He put on a great show. I'm hoping my dates are added to his current tour and he makes it to Toronto again. He's definitely worth seeing.

I haven't heard it yet, but I think I will give it a try. I always liked his raw, bare bones type tone and from what you all are saying that's what he sounds like on this album.

Yeah, I'll probably pick it up.

That Les Paul --> Marshall tone is what got me to pick up a guitar over 30 years ago.

He's always done that one trick pretty well, and I still like to hear his '78 solo album now and then.

Speedin' Back To My Baby was one of the first songs that connected the dots (for me) between Big Rock and The Blues way back then. Until that point, I thought Blues was scratchy old 78 records of dead black guys.

I see he's playing at Kewadin Casino in Michigan's UP on Friday night. Just might make the drive and catch the show.

Might!? Man,I'd do it in a heart beat if I were you!

Unfortunately,I have to wait 'til next year when he tours the album. :P
