New Guitar Day - but I am now 0 for 3

Relative newbie here, so go easy. Just got my much anticipated Gary Moore BFG from Musicians Friend - love the feel and really love the pickups.

However... has a dead spot on the high e string (the Bb does not ring clearly at all, and it is resonance not fret choking because changing the tuning moves the problem. Also has what looks like a wood knot that creates a small gap in one spot on the fretboard, and has a couple of minor dents on other non-critical parts of the neck. So, it is going back.

This is coming on the heels of having ordered and returned (in the last 2 months) a Studio due to a really bad dead spot and a Joan Jett Melody Maker due to a warped neck. MF is pretty cool about returns, but this is getting frustrating.

If I could play before buying I could probably pick something decent (worked when I bought my VM Studio at the Nashville Showcase during a vacation), but the nearest Gibson dealer is more than an hour and a half away (and is a Guitar Center anyway). Really just wanted another Gibson guitar as practice motivation, but the quality control is starting to bum me out.[confused]

Just curious if others are having similar experiences on their Gibson purchases. Also, is there any Gibson model that they are making with enough consistency to buy from MF with a better shot at not having to return it? I am really trying to give them my money, but they are making that kind of hard.

Yeah, it's called a Custom Shop guitar!!

Fork out the extra dough and I'm 99.999% sure, you'll be pleased with the guitar.

I recently tried out two Firebirds with QC issues, it happens.

Some guys who buy new Gibsons immediately get the frets dressed.

Maybe that's something you should consider.
