ibis
An SG lets you go widdly right up the neck and has more versatile pickups than its pointy brethren. Its a good all rounder.
FennRx
i agree. the SG would fit well with what you're into. the 490/498 PUs can belt out Classic Crunch and can handle the scooped high gain of thrash metal. rock on.
Thundergod
you should get a variax... i heard you have like, 50 guitars in there for the price of an overpriced one. yeah right... hey anyone know if the variax works well with guitar hero? (havent played that damned game or/and thing once but i had to ask) I voted SG standard, as they have great uppe fret access, dark tone, and are confortable for playing standing up or sitting down. Silverbursted
An SG for the broad range of sound you are looking for. Mick Mars usually played a Kramer and also a Fender, and Kirk Hammett usually played an ESP.
Gibson CS
get a les paul and wear it as low as your strap can go or be another present day cookie cutter guitarist =D

flyingarmadillo
Well I voted SG, but if you look at the pictures in your sig, they're mostly LPs. Sort of answers the question before you asked! BTW, one advantage to the SG is that it's a LOT lighter than even the "chambered" LPs.
Ian Martin
All of the guitars in your poll will be able to achieve the 'sound' and style of music you want to play (and more). That being said, it comes down to which one YOU want to play (or, when you're a kid, how much you can afford). Don't buy a guitar because a bunch of other people tell you that you should, or because all your heroes play it. Be an individual! There's a hundred zillion guys out there who have bought a Les Paul because they wish they were Slash or Page...or an SG because of Angus or Iommi...or an Explorer because of Hetfield. Screw that, play what [insert your name here] would play! THAT being said, the SG Standard and the Les Paul are probably the most practical choices. If it's your first Gibson, I would almost recommend an SG (it's a fantastic speedy little guitar that SCREAMS with great fret access and is super easy to play and will be significantly cheaper as you can snatch a Standard on eBay for about $800), but once you play a LP you'll never need another guitar. Good luck, and be sure to post pics when you do buy one!
NeoConMan
SG Standard and the Les Paul are probably the most practical choices. Standard is cool, SG 61 is my preference among the SG's I own. When the day comes you can afford a real deal Les Paul Standard, or even a Custom, it will be a keeper. Well, I sold the first two I bought for various reasons beyond the scope here. I have two Les Pauls now that I will NEVER sell. NEVER sell guitars! You will always regret it! Tim Plains
Don't buy a guitar because a bunch of other people tell you that you should' date=' or because all your heroes play it.[/quote']Ian said it perfectly, I think. I love Nirvana, but you don't see a Jag-Stang in my house. When you do decide on a guitar, don't limit yourself to one particular model. By that I mean if you decide on a SG, don't look only at Standards unless you're absolutely set on a Standard, like I was. I had a SG Special that I traded in for a Standard...I didn't care, I really wanted a Standard...always did. Didn't want a 61, didn't want the Special or Special Faded...just a Standard. In all fairness, I'm bias towards Gibson. I have a Strat that I don't even consider a guitar anymore 'cause it's not a Gibson. I finally took it out of it's case a week ago. Took it out, tuned it, played for five minutes, put it right back in the case and grabbed a Gibson. Based on my personal experience, I would say Les Paul...but look at all of them, not just Standards & Studios. LPs have the feel and sound I want...but just because they're right for me, doesn't make them right for you. If all you do is wail on frets 16-22, then I'd say look to another guitar. Staying within the Gibson family, I’d say also try an EMG equipped SG or Explorer. A lot of people don't like them, but good lord, my SG sounds incredible! not much tonal variation, but man, what a screamer!!! (Notice the three exclamation points there...you know I'm not kidding ) NeoConMan: I've read countless posts of guys saying "I wish I still had it." I must be the only person that doesn't regret getting rid of my SG.
led floyd9
All right, before you buy a good guitar, play every guitar in your local store to see which ones are nice. And don't forget about the faded models, they're very good guitars, and honestly, I think the LP Std. Faded is better than the regular LP Std. The zebra humbuckers and the faded finish.... mmm... Then look at those SG's, but the faded rule applies here too, for me, a faded SG makes me drool And if money is an issue, don't spend it all on a good guitar. To make a good guitar sound the way it should, you need a good amp. Gibsons sound great with most tube amps, and well, tube amps aren't very cheap either.
