SkEpTiKaL
it was hard to find lefties This. Hard to find and very expensive. Much cheaper to buy a regular guitar and string it upside-down.
Thundergod
He was left handed and at the time it was harder to ofind left handed guitars than it is today.
Rocky4
Yes, but he strung it in the normal method as opposed to Albert King and Otis Rush, who strung it backwards. The lighter gauge strings on top.
Cruznolfart
I don't think he knew any better. I think he looked at other, righty guitarists and just mirrored what he saw to make learning easier on his drug-addled brain. Just think how much better he could have played had he done it right. Tsk tsk.
FirstMeasure
He also liked to manipulate the controls with his forearm.
milod
According to my Lil Bro, a mere child of 59 and who's left-handed, it's very difficult to get a lotta different stuff that righties take for granted. It appears he's done more than a few nonstandard sorts of stuff to accommodate being a leftie with modifications of everything from firearms to some mechanikin' tools. So... I doubt it's entirely a matter of drugs for Hendrix even though I'm the last guy in the world to condone the type of drug use he exemplified. As I recall also Elizabeth Cotton, the lady who is credited with writing "Freight Train," played backwards and upside down as a leftie. The style was known - golly whiz, but I'm not kidding - as "Cotton Pickin'." m
