mooboo
In a previous topic I was talking about creating a custom pickguard for my CL-30 Deluxe. I have settled on a design and tortoise material. However, I'm wanting a little more. If I paint a design on it similar to the stylings of the hummingbird, how do I keep the paint on there from being scratched off? Best case scenerio I'd like to know how Gibson gets their hummingbird designs to be painted "in" the plastic of the guard. Anyone have any suggestions on protective material that I could use on this pickguard?
ShredAstaire
Maybe paint the design and then clearcoat?
mooboo
Good idea my man! I wonder how many coats would protect it from my strumming habits..?
Blackie
You could pour 2 part epoxy resin over it. That would equal about 60 coats

Blackie
Oh it will dry high gloss clear, no need to sand it.
mooboo
I mean around the edges, if some goes off the side. And maybe to angle the edges so that it won't be square.
Blackie
Epoxy is some nasty stuff, some spray laquer would be better, a few coats would do it.
Riffster
Having no screws to hold that guard in place it will warp if you only clearcoat one side. Clear coat both sides to avoid this, then glue in place.
