Should Gibson make a Les Paul/Electric Resonator?

I am thinking a P90 or mini-humbucker on the neck position, resonator cone, bridge, etc and a resonator pickup.

Keep the toggle switch to select either pickup or a blend.

Sure, the guitar would most likely have a flat top and perhaps a slightly thicker body.

Gibson already makes products with all these components anyway, all they would have to do is set the CNC machines to hollow out the body to place the resonator cone.

What do you guys think?

I'd buy one!

Where are those Beltona things made?

Beltona resonators are made in New Zealand I believe, the guy that makes them is American though.

They come up for sale once in a while in the USA but they are pricey and they go fast.

Different pickups, different body, no top carve -- so you're basically taking a Les Paul pickup switch, attaching it to a really ugly guitar, and calling the result a "Les Paul?"

I don't get it. Find a home before the weather turns cold.

Same body shape.

There are already Les Paul models with a flat top.

Different pickups? Les Pauls had P90s originally and they still do. Mini-humbuckers came in LPs for years.

The only change was the resonator cone and pickup for it. Shorter neck to adjust the scale.

If a Les Paul acoustic has been made in the past, I don't see why not a resonator.

In the end it does not have to be called Les Paul, I mean Gibson does own the Dobro brand.

Yeah' date=' I know: I have a '70 Deluxe. I also have an '84 D60 Dobro.

The "acoustic" LP was a Norlin-era curiosity. The shipping numbers were extremely low. I'm not sure whether corporate ownership of a name is powerful enough motivation for this -- especially since they seem to be busy with the Zoot Suits and the Dark Tigers.

As noted above, I play Dobro as well as electric guitar -- when I pick up my Dobro, I want it to sound, and respond, like a Dobro, not a Les Paul. I don't know that a mash-up would be an improvement to either instrument...maybe that's just me.

There are a couple of young guys around here who play those. It's really hard to tell what they sound like, because they overkill on effects, but they look like something you could get around pretty good on them (the guitars, not the young guys). I guess I'm too old to adapt.
