psy-lp
Hello, What's with the inlay blocks in LP standard 2008, the "structure" of them shows through very much. I mean the canvas they are printed on to. When I play mine, I always notice the "grid" behind the inlay block. I know it doesn't make any difference as far as playing is concerned, but it is a bit irritating on a guitar at this price point. As a reference, my 300$ epiphone G400 doesn't have this "problem". No, I won't bother asking Gibson CS about this, I was just wondering that no one else has complained, I've been lurking for about three months now. psy-lp
And my LP isn't fake either, I bought it from thomann, which is a very large supplier in Europe. I'll post picks later. Sorry for being negative, I llove my LP to bits, thit was a dream of mine until now, I was able to buy it as my mother died, and Iwas her only heir. So I enjoy the thing very much, and appreciate it very much. I just didn't expect this kind of "feature". --Pekka

psy-lp
Thanks LPGuitarman. It's the block inlays, the pearl inlay has this "grid" visible in the background when looking at the guitar. I undertstand that this is not a real problem but just annoying.

Maybe the plastic was mixed with too much transparent compound when they molded the inlays. They are not "real" Mother of Pearl by the way. psy-lp
yes I see this is hard to describe...and also hard to photograph. Let's just forge it , whatever it is, I don't mind it and and my LP still plays beautifully so no problem really. Thank you for being helpful, hopefully I can some day help someone else here. --Pekka

lowb5str
Could it be the cross-hatches of chiseling for the inlays showing through a very translucent batch of inlay material?
loneguitar
Without pics, we're all just speculating. How about uploading a few to see what you're really talking about? BTW, welcome to the forum.
rockstar232007
I know what he's talking about. The new inlays are cut from cast Acrylic , and are thinner, and more transparent than MOP inlays. The marks (grid-lines) are from the molds, and are actually visible if they're not finished properly. The thing I don't understand? They're (Gibson) using cheaper materials (figured acrylic instead of MOP, non-holly HS veneers, etc.) but yet, the prices of their guitars are only going higher. It's pretty bad that my [cheap ***] $900 '02 Epi LP Standard Plus has MOP inlays, but a $3,000+ LP doesn't? Hell, with the way things are going now, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up switching to poly finishes soon!

Yes thanks, that sounds like the same thing I'm talking about. It's just something you wouldn't expect in a gibbo, compared to the epis for example. Tried to take pics, but can't actually get the feature showing in them. But as said, no big deal :) Thanks for help.
