Original specs on a Limited Edition Explorer

Hi, I need to know the original specs of a Limited Edition Explorer.

It has a decal in the back of the neck that says "Limited Edition", and has stamped "Made in USA" and the following number: "01481352".

I need to know the specs of the pickups that came with this guitar originally, 'cause the guitar's wiring's been tampered with by a non-pro and I think that my friend got ripped-off five years ago when he bought it.

Thanks in advance,

Hard to say. I think this is a 1980. Is it black with gold hardware? I know the first few years of Explorer reissues had epoxy potted/sealed pickups. Essentially it was a PAF style pickup with covers, sealed on the back with black epoxy. I once had a '74 SG with pickups like this. Pictures would help. But really if your friend was "ripped off" 5 years ago isnt it a little late to do anything about it?

Well the number you gave in the post makes it a about a 1 or 2 yearold guitar when your freind got ripped off. The 148th day of 2001 and I think came with the usual 496/500 pickups, but I'm no expert. I really don't understand why you think your freind got ripped off and the wiring is pretty striaght forward and simple. Why don't you just call gibson custmer service, they answer 24/7 and is your best bet. They will tell exactly what they put in that thing for sure.

He wants to sell the guitar, so he asked me to take it to original specs. The guy he bought it from is still around, so we can always beat him up to a pulp if he doesn't come forward with some cash... :-) J/K

to Ian Martin:

Got any pics?

I don't have ant digital camera, so no pics. But it's natural color, white pickguard, gold hardware including Grover Kidney tuners. The p'ups have been changed with some 7.8K ones of uncertain origin, even thought it's written "Gibson" on the baseplate, they don't match up the 496R/500T specs.

Well, in Italy there's no Gibson 24/7 customer service like in the States. I wrote an e-mail to the american customer service and twelve hours later I got the anwer I was looking for.

To everybody:

I'd like to personally thank every one of you for the help given. I really appreciate.

Yours very truly,
