Californiaman
Most of the small guitar stores I've been in this year seem to have a huge inventory of Epiphone guitars. What's Gibson doing? It seems Epiphones are everywhere. I think they're taking over. Gone are the days when shops had a few quality Gibson guitars. They've been replaced with Epiphones of all makes and models. Say hello to Epiphone Nation people. We have a market that's been flooded with cheap, imported guitars. RichCI
Luckily, my favorite local shop carries lots of Gibson and makes a point of getting in some somewhat unusual ones as well.

deepblue
Gibson will not let just anyone sell their guitars. When you go to the smaller music stores and wonder why they dont stock Gibson, its not that they havent tried to get them, its that Gibson will only deal with specific shops who must fit their criteria. Sad, but true.
Shnate McDuanus
You say that like you're "normal"!! I have a weekly budget of $2,300. I need to prioritize my expenses properly, so it goes in this order: 1) Guitars 2) Booze 3)

surfpup
Gibson will only deal with specific shops who must fit their criteria.Sad' date=' but true.[/quote'] And that criteria is an inventory that requires substantial investment. A shop near me quit carrying them. The amount they had to keep sunk in inventory was prohibitive. Unfortunately, this seems to favor major distributors. The only choice a small shop has is to purchase a few at retail from the majors and try to resell locally at a small profit.

The funny thing is that dealers that don't carry them say they dropped Gibson.
charlie brown
Pure economics! Epi's may not be "Gibsons," but...for a fraction of the price, they're a great alternative, within the Gibson family, especially for first time buyers, and/or their parents. Plus, a lot of dealers cannot afford to stock the numbers, that Gibson requires, to have a "Gibson dominant" dealership! And, Epi's are "getting better, all the time." ;>) CB
Watermelon99
"Music and Arts" stores don't carry Gibson. I think they're owned by Guitar Center. Not sure.

They are good instruments for the price.. and not EVERYONE has thousands to spend on Gibsons.
