I know this has been discussed before, but (tuner replacements)

You can also switch to the Waverly's with the white ivoroid button, which make it look more like an original J-45. You have to buy the "conversion peghead bushings" ( http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?action=SERVE&sku=3456&ITEM=catalog/sku.html ) from Stew-Mac and drill an extra hole for the upper screw but it's pretty easy... I did it on a Dove Artist, went from the gold Grovers to nickel Waverly's... pretty quick process and it looked great!

Good luck!

I like the Grover Deluxe with tulips, which require drilling a top mount hole for the extra screw. Otherwise a close fit.

I installed Kluson Deluxe Gold with Tulips in my J-45. They basically dropped in, no drilling. I had to use a round file to clean the holes just a tiny bit. I left them on for about a year and thought they looked great. Then I kept looking at the photo I have of Bob Dylan plying his J-45 and put the original white ones back in!

Yes, the Grovers in nickel are what I used, and they were a close fit. They have the nice cast shell as opposed to the formed Kluson clones, and 14:1 is a sensible ratio--you're not constantly winding when changing strings. Although I have to admit I only change strings every year or so.

As to changing out the knobs on your existing tuners, they're Rotomatics, right? If so, they'll look goofy (just my opinion) with ivoroid knobs, asuming you can get to fit. And the Waverlys are very nice, but man are they expensive for no more than what they have to do.
